The Uganda Medical Association (U.M.A) is pleased to announce the historic conferment of its first-ever Honorary Membership upon H.E. Gen. (Rtd.) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, in recognition of his contribution to the advancement of Uganda’s healthcare sector and support for the medical profession.
This landmark recognition marks a significant milestone in the Association’s history and underscores the President’s longstanding commitment to strengthening Uganda’s healthcare system, advancing medical education, promoting scientific development, and improving the welfare of healthcare professionals.
The honorary membership was conferred during a high-level engagement held at State House, Entebbe, on 9 October 2026, bringing together leaders of U.M.A, U.M.A SACCO, the Federation for Uganda Medical Interns (FUMI), and the Federation of Uganda Medical Students' Associations (FUMSA).
The engagement reaffirmed the strategic partnership between the medical fraternity and the Government of Uganda, with discussions focusing on healthcare workforce development, medical training, professional welfare, socioeconomic empowerment, and improved healthcare service delivery.
The conferment of Honorary Membership, Membership No. UMAHM00001, symbolizes the Association’s appreciation of the President’s leadership and its commitment to fostering constructive collaboration with the Government in addressing Uganda’s healthcare challenges.
U.M.A remains dedicated to advancing the interests of medical professionals, promoting excellence in medical practice, and advocating for a resilient, equitable, and sustainable healthcare system that delivers quality services to all Ugandans.
